The brick facade of The Astelle at 286 Rider Avenue, an eight-story 2025 building in Mott Haven.

About The Astelle

A building made of the place it stands in

124 residences at 286 Rider Avenue, designed by Fischer Makooi Architects and opened in 2025. This is who we are and how we work.

The building

Designed for Mott Haven, not dropped into it

The Astelle opened in 2025 at 286 Rider Avenue, in the southwest corner of the South Bronx. Eight stories, 124 residences, and a brick exterior that was a deliberate choice rather than a default. Fischer Makooi Architects designed the building to read as the next entry in a neighborhood that was built of brick, oversized windows, and ironwork proportions a century ago.

That neighborhood is the historic Piano District, where Mott Haven once held the densest concentration of piano factories in the country. The red brick, the big windows, and the proportions those factories left behind still define these streets. The Astelle's facade continues that material language on purpose, so the building belongs to the block instead of standing apart from it.

Inside, the residences are built to a current standard rather than a renovated one: open kitchens with stainless appliances, full bathrooms in warm tile or grey mosaic, generous closets, and large windows, many with a private balcony framing the Bronx skyline. The amenities, from the rooftop terrace with hot tubs to the 24-hour fitness center and the resident lounge with a library, are documented in full on the amenities page.

Who handles leasing

Leased by EXR, a licensed New York brokerage

EXR, a licensed New York real estate broker, leases The Astelle. The leasing team schedules the tours, answers the questions on the FAQ, and guides every applicant through the process, from the first walk-through to the signed lease.

If you have a question about a specific residence, the current pricing, the two-months-free concession, or how a guarantor fits your application, the leasing team is the direct line. The contact page reaches them, and the availability page always shows the homes renting now.

How we work

The research and guides behind this site

The neighborhood guide, the transit notes, the FAQ, and the guarantor explainer on this site are curated by The Astelle editorial team. We verify what we publish against primary sources, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, the MTA, the New York City Commission on Human Rights, and local reporting, and we cite them where a claim is not a first-party fact. Where something is not yet confirmed, we say so rather than guess. That standard is the reason this site can be the clearest answer in Mott Haven.
