Three ways outside

St. Mary's Park: At about 35 acres, St. Mary's is the largest park in the South Bronx, a short walk inland from The Astelle. Rolling lawns and mature trees over a hillside, with ballfields, a recreation center, courts, and a dog run, the neighborhood's everyday green, big enough to actually lose the city for an hour.¹
The Randall's Island Connector: Opened in November 2015, the Randall's Island Connector is a quarter-mile dual-use path that links the Bronx at East 132nd Street to Randall's Island, running under the Amtrak trestle and over the Bronx Kill. On foot or by bike, it opens up the island's 330 acres of fields, paths, and waterfront, the first direct walking and cycling route from the South Bronx.²
The Harlem River waterfront: The Harlem River runs along the western and southern edge of the neighborhood, and the city's long effort to reclaim that edge as a public greenway is steadily taking shape. It is a work in progress rather than a finished esplanade, but the direction is clear, and the Connector and the Madison Avenue Bridge already make the water something you can reach.
