A sunlit residence at The Astelle with oversized windows over Mott Haven, suggesting the life of the building beyond the home

The building

A building that looks after the day.

Beyond the residences, The Astelle is a full-service building: a doorman at the door, wellness on the roof, and rooms made for gathering, all drawn into one address by Fischer Makooi.

Full service

Everything the address holds.

A home is more than its four rooms. At The Astelle, the day begins at a staffed lobby and a doorman who knows the building, with a mail and package room so nothing waits on the street. Cars park behind enclosed doors, bikes have a room of their own, and there is private storage for the rest of a life.

Above it all, Fischer Makooi drew a roof to live on: a terrace with hot tubs over the South Bronx, a greenhouse, and a fitness center for the morning. Back inside, a residents' lounge and a library give the building rooms to gather in. The architecture and the way the building is run were drawn as one idea.

Designed by Fischer Makooi Architects

An Astelle residence with full-height glass and a balcony opening to the South Bronx light, in the spirit of the building's rooftop

On the roof

A roof made to be lived on.

Fischer Makooi gave the building its highest rooms to the open air: wellness and long views, eight stories over Mott Haven.

An open-air terrace crowning the building, with hot tubs set against the South Bronx skyline.
Greenhouse
A glass room for growing things, bright through the seasons above the street.
Fitness center
A room for the morning workout, kept inside the building so the day starts at home.

Arrival & service

The building does the work.

Everything that makes a day run smoothly, handled at the ground floor, so the home upstairs stays a home.

Full-time doorman
A staffed lobby and a door that is always attended, day and night.
Mail & package room
A dedicated room for mail and deliveries, so nothing is ever left waiting outside.
Enclosed private parking
Park behind closed doors, inside the building, out of the weather and the street.
Bike room
A room of its own for bicycles, off the floor and out of the residence.

Rooms to gather

Where the building comes together.

Shared rooms drawn with the same hand as the residences: places to host, to read, to be among neighbors.

Residents' lounge
A recreation and residents' lounge for hosting, working, or simply spreading out beyond the apartment.
Library
A quiet room of shelves and soft light, set apart for reading and thinking.

Everyday ease

The details that hold a life.

The quieter amenities: the ones noticed only when they are missing.

Private in-building storage
Dedicated storage inside the building for the things a closet cannot hold.
Pet-friendly building
Your cat or dog is welcome at The Astelle, lobby to rooftop.

The building

Eight stories of brick and light.

Fischer Makooi drew The Astelle as a brick presence on Rider Avenue, balconies stepping out over the street and the roof terrace crowning it all.
