Here is exactly how applying works at The Astelle in Mott Haven, what you will gather, and how to start. Guarantors and housing vouchers are welcome.
The short answer
Applying is straightforward, and the leasing team walks you through it
Applying to The Astelle follows the same path as any well-run New York rental. You gather a short set of documents, submit them with your application, the leasing team reviews the full picture, and once you are approved you sign the lease. Nothing about it is a mystery, and you are never guessing what comes next.
The leasing team handles applications for the building, so a real person confirms what your specific residence needs and answers questions before you commit to anything. The fastest way to begin is simply to reach out and tell them the home you want.
How it works
The application, step by step
Four steps, start to keys. Each one is something the leasing team can confirm for your residence before you move to the next.
Gather your documents
Collect government photo identification, recent proof of income such as pay stubs or an offer letter, recent bank statements, and your contact details. If you plan to apply with a guarantor or a housing voucher, note that now so the team can set you up correctly from the start.
Submit your application
Send your completed application and documents to the leasing team for the residence you want. Applying with roommates or a guarantor is normal here; their materials go in as part of the same package so everything is reviewed together.
Screening and review
The leasing team reviews the full application, which commonly includes a credit and background check, and confirms the income and any thresholds for your specific home. Lawful sources of income, including housing vouchers, are considered the same as employment income.
Sign and move in
Once you are approved, you review and sign the lease, arrange the standard move-in costs, and schedule your move. The team confirms your start date and what you owe before signing, so there are no surprises at the table.
What to prepare
What you will need
This is the set of documents a New York application commonly asks for. The leasing team confirms the exact list for your residence, so treat this as the picture to assemble, not a rigid checklist.
- Government photo identification
- A valid driver's license, state ID, or passport for each adult on the application.
- Proof of income
- Recent pay stubs, an employment offer letter, or for self-employed applicants, recent tax returns and bank statements.
- Bank statements
- Your most recent statements, which help show steady finances alongside your income.
- Voucher or subsidy paperwork
- If you use a housing voucher or subsidy, the program documentation. It is welcome and considered the same as other lawful income.
- Guarantor materials
- If you apply with a guarantor, their identification and proof of income, submitted with your application as one package.
- Application details
- Your contact information and the residence you want. The team confirms any remaining requirements before you submit.
We deliberately do not publish a fixed income multiple here. The threshold depends on the residence and the full application, and the leasing team confirms it for you before you apply.
Guarantors and income
Guarantors and housing vouchers are welcome
If your own income or credit history is not yet long enough to qualify on its own, a guarantor can sign alongside you, and The Astelle accepts qualified guarantors. This is how recent graduates, international renters, and applicants building income history rent in New York every day.
Lawful sources of income are treated the same as employment income. Housing vouchers and rental subsidies are welcome, and refusing an application because of a lawful income source is not how this building works. If a voucher or subsidy is part of your plan, tell the leasing team early and they will guide you.

We are an equal housing opportunity community and do not discriminate on the basis of source of income or any class protected by federal, New York State, or New York City law.
